We recommend An Apple For the Teacher – The Benefits of Eating Apples

Okay, were you one of those kids who took an apple to school to give to that really cute teacher that you wanted to impress? Maybe you took an apple to school to give to the teacher that gave you a bad grade and you wanted her to give you a better grade on your next test. Well if you were, then you might have been helping Ms. Teach be healthier and it actually could have helped you get that better grade that you wanted. Apples are very beneficial to anyone that’s trying to lose weight and eat healthy and there are so many varieties of apples that you can add them to your menu every day. Hence the old saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Did you know that apples are naturally fat free, low in calories and contain good carbohydrates and fiber? It’s true. Gala apples are one of the first Washington apple varieties to reach grocery stores every August. Each medium apple has 0 fat is only 80 calories and has 22g of good carbohydrates and is packed with 4g of fiber. We all know that fiber is good for helping us feel full and keeps our digestive system regulated. That makes this apple perfect for my favorite between meal snack. I like to core my gala apple, slice it up and dip it in my favorite all natural peanut butter so I add protein and good oil to my snack time.

Now I’m sure we all remember the all famous Granny Smith apple pies and how good they are fresh out of the oven right? Well the reason that granny used this green apple for baking is because it’s crisp, juicy tartness could stand the heat of a 375 degree oven and its natural sweetness complimented brown sugar and cinnamon just right. A medium granny smith apple is also 80 calories and has 22g of good carbohydrates, but it also has 17g of fast burning sugar and carries 20% of the Vitamin C that we need daily. Now that is raw of course, but just so I can get that apple pie flavor. I like to eat my granny smith apples with a little cinnamon and a drizzled of honey over them. I also eat them in the middle of the day when I need that extra burst of energy that I get from the sugar in this apple. I know I will burn it off throughout the rest of my day.

Not only are apples fat free and low in calories, but they have a high water content which helps us get the hydration that our bodies need. Especially if we don’t like to drink 8 glasses of water a day, although we still should. Even though a small Red Delicious Apple has only 40 calories which is half the calories of a medium apple, it still packs enough of water content in the flesh and fiber in the skin to keep you full until your next meal. Studies have also shown that the skin of a red delicious apple contains polyphenols which help lower cholesterol.

There are 7,500 varieties of apples world wide and 2,500 are grown in the United States. With this many apples in the US you could eat a different apple for more than 6 years and never eat the same apple twice. How could you ever get bored eating this fruit? So try eating an apple between each meal and see how much weight you will lose. That would be 3 apples a day and you can pick a different apple for each meal. Try eating cheese sticks or cottage cheese with your apples so you have a more complete snack and enjoy the best fruit nature has made.
